Notes:

Showtime!

Run through the scene from your topic once, generally:
  • Voice all the roles yourself
  • Don't focus on any one aspect particularly, this time through
  • Imagine the words you are voicing coming from the characters in front of you on the stage
  • You are breathing life into this scene right at this moment
  • Make it really happen right now in the present

Be animated

Make this as real as possible, without hurting yourself:
  • Use your hands to move the characters around like they would for real
  • Say the words aloud that were said or would be said, don't just think them
  • Really — say them aloud
  • Feel or re-experience any emotions or sensations there
  • Produce (with your voice) any sound effects you need to, like car horns or dogs barking or kids playing
  • Do the whole thing yourself, one way or another. It's OK to be dramatic — this is psychodrama

Don't get stuck into it

  • The idea is to run through the scene somewhat quickly this time through, no more than a few minutes
  • You can run through it dozens of times if you want to, but not on this step
  • It works best not to spend too long on any one run through.

Add to elements/characters

After you've run through the scene, especially with the focus on different aspects, new things often come to view that you didn't think of before. That's fine. If they seem important, just create something appropriate and add it to the stage. Remember to add the labels so you don't forget what the things are if it is not obvious.

Different scene

At some point you will very likely discharge your current topic and lose interest in exploring it further. It is best to end the session at that point. If there is a different topic you would like to get into, take a break and then do it in another session, and start again from the top at Step 1.
