Notes:

"Word clearing" is the name for various procedures in which the person carefully checks the materials (books, texts etc.) of the subject he is studying to find and clear up the meanings of words he has not understood or misunderstood in them.

For example, if he thinks a "big cat" always means a lion or tiger, he will have trouble when his mother says, "Elsie feeds her big cat far too much, and it just lies around in her sitting room all day."
