Write on Report:

Write down precisely what the more-basic false datum is. Write it big. It is important — don't scribble it illegibly. Make it stand out as you will refer back to it:

FALSE DATUM: ZZLKI MKJU TTGYER FD CFTYHG KKOK!

Troubleshooting

The most common error in FDSing is not noticing that the false datum has blown. But one can also run into trouble by skimping on some of the steps and not doing each one properly. This can usually be remedied by going over the steps again from just before the point you started to have trouble and making sure each one has been done thoroughly.

If all else fails, one can always just Rub & Yawn the item and it should all clear up nicely, although the data regarding the false datum/data will probably not be easily recoverable. Still, it should free up one's attention enough to continue on with the FDSing.

Giving self a false datum

Note that you can give yourself a false datum. An example might be in deciding that "All men are pigs." Even when someone else or a book "gives you" a false datum, you are still choosing to accept it — or not. So if a time that you decided something flashes into your mind as an answer to this question, it is perfectly OK to take it.

Notes (continued):

Go with what first flashes to mind

Usually a false datum will flash to mind immediately. Go with it — don't try to second-guess it and think of a different one. Both say it aloud and write it down, and click on the "I've said aloud and written down the false datum" link.

False datum not easily coming to view

If it is not obvious, try and take off some charge from the area using the usual Rub & Yawn procedure, ensuring you go early enough on the topic you are looking at that got brought into view by this uncovering question you are following up on. By "early enough," we're probably talking about the beginning of the time period, just before the beginning of the incident. If that doesn't work, maybe there is an earlier similar incident, even going into past lives, but don't look there first. Exhaust any simpler alternatives first.

Don't overdo the Rub & Yawn

Once you have located the false datum, stop using the Rub & Yawn procedure, even if it seems incomplete, and get back to the False Data Stripping procedure. Why? Because the Rub/ Yawn/ Visualization procedure works too well! Things can happen so fast that you lose track of what you are doing, and it is easy to go past the point where the false datum has blown. You will be able to use the Rub/ Yawn/ Visualization procedure again soon on this false datum if you still need to.

Persist!

If it really does seem like there is a false datum here, persist with digging for it until you find it. Remember there may be part of you saying the datum is true, at the same time that part of you says it is false.

Be careful in writing down the false datum

If you have located a false datum, write it down carefully on your worksheet, then click "I've said aloud and written down the FD." You may get a bit lost and need to refer back to it — this is why you must note it clearly and carefully. It is OK to adjust it later if you get a better wording of it.
