I'm confused — where do I start?

I'm no longer a newbie

I want finer control than the video or that sloppy do-anywhere method

There are five PaulsRobot modules that can be used on almost any general topic:
  • Core
  • HeavyDuty
  • Morph
  • BasicR3X
  • Psycho

Yeah, yeah — but what should I use to address my home or work hassles?

  • Core: This is the simplest 6-Direction module, and allows you a freeform approach to the aspect of your topic that has your focus. If your topic is kinda heavy it would be a good place to start.
  • HeavyDuty: This is also 6-Direction module. It includes 15 variations on the theme. Once you have taken some charge off your topic but there are still some sticky bits hanging up, HeavyDuty will give you angles of approach to the current focus of your topic that you might not have thought of. You can pick your own way through these, and are not forced to follow a set order of elements to use.
  • Morph: This is not a 6-Direction module. It includes dozens of different ways of changing your topic about. It is based on the idea that the more aspects of your topic you can exert some personal influence over, the less influence your topic will have over you.
  • BasicR3X: This is based on both running through different events that make up your topic and using the 6-Direction procedure on them. It is not a beginner's module.
    • Some people prefer it to the other three; some use it as a last resort if some topic is still hanging up despite giving it a good crack with the others.
    • Lifetime Scanning is a very valuable part of this module, and sometimes this is the only way a person will use BasicR3X. One can cover an entire lifetime in about 30 hours, cooling off everything of major importance that is there. That is without Rub & Yawn. Using Rub & Yawn should chop a chunk of time off that estimate.
  • Psycho: This is based on classical Psychodrama, invented in the 1930s and 40s. You get to rapidly create a little stage with props and solid figures (not made from clay!) for people, and you "act out" scenes from your topic. It is not a good idea to use this for a very traumatic topic as it quickly puts one back into the thick of it in order to discharge it.

I don't really have anything hanging up right now

You might want to try some of the fun modules, designed not so much to handle obvious knotty topics but more to poke around and see what can be dug up and then discharged. For instance:
  • Dipoles addresses pairs of opposites or near-opposites usually, like Create/Destroy or Love/Hate or whatever you fancy really. You might have a long-term failed dream of Marrying Josie Rushton next door, and you decide the thing opposite to that is Moping around in front of the TV. As a pair of opposites it might not satisfy an academic, but boy, perhaps the fur will start to fly when you're addressing it in session!
  • False Data Stripping can be very useful for addressing subjects that never seemed to make much sense to you, whether at school or in life.
  • NotTooShabbyPower is a bit like Dipoles in that it contains 78 pairs of opposite items to address one pair at a time. There are specific items here, whereas in Dipoles you choose your own without restriction.
  • There are four modules classified in that module list as Really woo-woo, and you might be advised to stay well away from them. But if you're feeling brave and want to explore your extended anatomy — subtle energy areas — then give it a go. The first two dimensions of RAW4 would probably be the gentlest place to start.
  • There are a dozen more, but you've probably got the idea by now. If you're the pioneering type, there is plenty here to choose from.

I was having trouble in session

I tried but didn't yawn at all

  • This is all BS :)
  • Try reading the Rub & Yawn page section on Letting go of stress and the referenced (external) articles there
  • The topic you used wasn't hot enough
  • You weren't sessionable. In other words you hadn't had enough food, or sleep, or were under the influence etc. The pre-session points starting here are important if you want to have good sessions
  • You could have followed the instructions more closely
  • Maybe you need to work at it some more in order to get the subtle-energy pathways open
  • Maybe some other point on the Troubleshooting list applies, including the catch-all Something else wrong? final question on the Repair List there.

I was going along great in session, then it all went to hell

It's hard to tell from this description alone. Possibly you went by a win, meaning you didn't really do anything wrong at all except continue on the session past the point when you should have stopped. Sometimes one feels great and reaches a good point in the session, and to do more is a waste of time. Recognising such points comes with experience, but just be aware that it can happen.
